WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University has announced that its home men's and women's basketball games with Spalding University originally scheduled for this Wednesday, Feb. 7 have been pushed back one day and will now be held on Thursday, Feb. 8.
The games were changed due to help accommodate the travel plans for Spalding, who is scheduled to play a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Blackburn, which is located in Carlinville, Ill.
Thursday's doubleheader will begin at 6 p.m. with the Gorlok women (15-5 overall, 9-3 SLIAC) facing off against the Spalding women (9-12 overall, 7-6 SLIAC) and then the Gorlok men (11-10 overall, 8-6 SLIAC) meeting the Spalding men (8-12 overall, 6-8 SLIAC) at 8 p.m.
On the women's side, the Gorloks enter the game having won four consecutive games and are sitting in third place in the SLIAC standings with its 9-3 record and are just a half-game behind second-place Eureka College, who is 10-3 in the league standings, while Spalding comes into the game having won two straight games and has moved into fourth place with a 7-6 mark. Greenville leads the way on the women's side with a 12-1 mark in league play.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Gorloks, who have won three of its last four games with the only setback being an 88-83 loss on the road this past Saturday against Iowa Wesleyan, are sitting in a tie for fourth place with Blackburn in the league standings with an 8-6 mark, while Spalding comes into the contest tied for sixth in the SLIAC standings with MacMurray College as both teams are 6-8 in league play. Greenville sits atop the men's standings with a 10-4 league mark, while Eureka and Westminister are tied for second in the league with 9-5 records.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams on both the men's and women's side will qualify for a spot in the SLIAC Tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 23-24.
