(St. Louis, Mo.) - The Webster Gorloks had little trouble in sweeping past Lincoln Christian,
17-5 and
33-5 on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Ill. Webster has now won six straight and seven of its last eight overall.
The Gorloks (
7-8) got off to great start in game one scoring 11 times on eight hits in the first inning getting a three home runs from
John Combs, a three run blast,
Andrew Fuiten, a two run shot, and
Kyle Starnes with a solo shot.
Greg Steen added a two run single in the inning as well. The Preachers (0-6) got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning but Webster got it back in the second when Combs singled in Steen, who had led off the inning with a double, to make it 12-1. After a scoreless third and fourth innings each side put up a four spot in the fifth before WU finished the scoring with a run in the seventh.
The offense pounded out 17 hits in the win including every starter with at least one led by Steen with three. Combs and Steen had four RBIs apiece while
David Umfleet scored three runs.
Eric Broughton went the first four innings allowing just a run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts and walks to even his record to 1-1 on the year.
In the nightcap it was more of the same as Webster scored multiple runs in every inning including an eight spot in the fourth and 10 runs in the sixth to give the Gorloks a 29-2 lead. WU had 14 players score in the second game with 12 of those getting at least one hit. WU pounded out 24 hits in the game led by Starnes with four.
James Powell evened his record at 1-1 working the first four innings allowing two runs, none earned, on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Webster will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader at Greenville College beginning at 2 p.m.
