Golf wins SLIAC Tournament by one shot over Maryville

(Carlyle, Ill.) - The Webster Gorloks rallied from six shots down to defeat Maryville and win the 2008 SLIAC Tournament on Tuesday at Governors Run Golf Club in Carlyle, Ill. Webster fired a third round score of 329 to finish with a 54 total of 965 (319-317-329). WU trailed Maryville by six shots heading into the round but shot a 336 to finish with a total score of 966 (315-315-336).

    Brandon Glen and Juan Proano finished second and third respectively for the Gorloks and in the process earned first team all conference honors. Glen finished the tournament with a three round total of 231 (75-74-82) which was 10 shots behind the leader. Proano finished seven shots behind Glen with a 54 total of 238 (81-78-79). Jason Sullivan was the only other Webster player to finish in the top 10 in ninth with a score of 247 (81-83-83) and earned second team all conference honors.

    Jake Black just missed all conference honors and a top 10 with a 249 score (82-82-85) which was good for a tie for 12th only one spot behind the 10th place finishers. Allen Heeger finished his three rounds in 21st place with a total of 256 (86-85-85).

   With the win Webster secures the conference's automatic qualifying berth to the NCAA Division III Championships in Braselton, Georgia at the Chateau Elan Resort on May 13-16.
