Moore, Zehner, Meyer Named SLIAC All-Conference

Zehner Is Women's Newcomer of the Year

Whenever there was a men's or women's Gorlok basketball highlight in 2009-10, either Drew Moore's (JR, Northwest HS, STL), Katy Meyer's (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL), or Maggie Zehner's (FR, Oakville HS, STL) name didn't seem far behind.  All three were honored with St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 2009-10 All-Conference selections on February 27.  Zehner was  further honored by being named the SLIAC Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year.

Zehner, named to the SLIAC Women's All-Conference second team, was second in team scoring at 9.3 points per game and led the Gorloks in assists and was second in steals.  She becomes the team's first Newcomer of the Year since the 1999-00 season, and the first Gorlok freshman named to the honor.  Zehner was also named to the SLIAC Women's All-Defensive Team.

Meyer, named to the SLIAC Women's All-Conference second team, led the Gorloks in scoring at 10.9 points per game and was second in rebounds at 6.2.  She also led the team in blocked shots and 3-point FG percentage.  Meyer and Zehner are the first Gorloks selected as women's All-Conference since 2005-06.

Moore was named first team SLIAC Men's All-Conference.  In addition, Moore was named to the SLIAC Men's All-Defensive Team.  He had team-high averages of 13.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, and led the team in steals, blocked shots, and was second in assists.

Head Coach Chris Bunch noted, "Drew led us in scoring, rebounding, steals, and blocked shots, all while guarding one of our opponents best scorers.  He was not only our best player, but one of the best players in the SLIAC."

Nick Jones (JR, Heritage HS, IL) and Ayrica Lockett (SO, Crossroads Prep, STL) were both Honorable Mention selections for the SLIAC men's and women's teams, respectively.  Jones was leading the men in scoring when his season was ended by injury on February 5.  He finished second in scoring at 12.9 points per game and third in rebounds.  Lockett was third in scoring for the women, and led the team with 8.2 rebounds per game.  She and Zehner were the only Gorloks to start all 26 games.
