The Webster University baseball team leapt from being unranked in the final regular season top 30 poll, to being ranked 8th nationally in the American Baseball Coaches Association's final poll of the 2012 season. The Gorloks lofty ranking came on the heels of the team's 5-2 record in the NCAA Tournament, including a 4-0 sweep of the Millington Regional.
In its post-season play, Webster knocked off a number of ranked opponents including Birmingham-Southern College (#6) twice, Kean University (#11), DePauw University (#22), and Washington University (#27). Webster had near-misses against Marietta College and Wheaton College, who finished 1-2 in the final poll.
Despite going two and out in the World Series, and their second defeat at the hands of the Gorloks, Kean University still managed to finish 6th in the final voting, ahead of Webster. Birmingham-Southern, despite two losses to Webster, finished strong as well, only dropping three places to 9th in the final poll.
