Softball Doubleheader Saturday at Westminster Pushed Back to Sunday

WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University has announced that its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Westminster (Mo.) College has been pushed back to Sunday due to the weather.

The teams were originally to play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30 in Fulton, Mo., but with a forecast that calls for rain the next several days, it was decided to push the game back a day and the teams will now play a doubleheader on Sunday, March 31 beginning at 1 p.m. at Blue Jay Field on the Westminster campus.

"The rain that is expected to hit the area the next couple of days has caused Saturday's doubleheader to be pushed back one day to Sunday," Webster interim head coach Katie Griffith said.

The Gorloks enter Sunday's doubleheader with Westminster sporting a 4-14 overall record and is 1-3 in the SLIAC after splitting a home SLIAC doubleheader at home against Blackburn, The Gorloks won the opener 1-0 behind a shutout pitching performance by freshman Arianna Arias (Pomona, Calif./Bishop Amat) and then fell 4-3 in the nightcap. The loss in the nightcap snapped a three game win streak for the Gorloks.

Westminster, who was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the SLIAC Coaches poll, comes into the weekend having won four straight games to improve to 4-10 overall and 4-0 in the league. The Blue Jays latest two wins came at home on Tuesday against Principia College.

Following Sunday's doubleheader at Westminster, the Gorloks will take nearly a week off before returning to action on Saturday, April 6 as they travel to Louisville, Ky., for a doubleheader at Spalding. The Spalding doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. ET.
