Another Draw for Men's Soccer

The Webster University men’s soccer team went into double overtime for the fourth time this season on Sept 30 against Maryville University.  The game ended in a 0-0 draw.  The draw gives the Gorloks a season record of 2-5-2 with a 1-1-1 record in conference play.

The game started with a 60 degree temperature and a pleasant breeze.  As the game progressed, the temperature dropped and the wind became biting.  This is also how the game went.  The first half was very pleasant, with WU playing very well.  The Gorloks matched everything MU threw at them, and triumphed.  The second half brought a cooler temperature, and with that temp drop came wet grass.  Both teams were having difficulty with the wet grass.  The result was a lot of break-aways and much more offense than was played in the first half.  One play in particular was on a pass from MU into the box. The ball was received and headed toward the goal post.  Out of nowhere came WU keeper Matt Geringer to make the save and keep the Gorloks in the game.  Even with the terrific play of Geringer, the Gorloks were unable to score, and the game went to overtime.  Neither team could gain the advantage in overtime, nor second overtime, and the eventual final was 0-0.

The men will take this draw and head to Texas this weekend.  The men will head to Abilene, TX where they will take on Hardin-Simmons University on Oct 6.  They will return home on Oct 8 when they will play Blackburn College at 7 p.m. at AB Soccer Park.  The men defeated Blackburn 5-0 earlier this season; however that contest did not count towards their SLIAC record.  The Oct 8 game will be an official SLIAC conference game.
