This afternoon in 91-degree weather, the Webster women's soccer program honored their alumnae and captured a 2-0 victory over Elmhurst College during their home opener at AB Soccer Park. To celebrate the team's tenth anniversary, the team sported throwback jerseys from 1999, the team'sinaugural season. This year's team had a dominant start in the first half. Junior Jenna Steiner converted a scoring chance to put the Gorloks ahead 1-0 at the half.
The second half was headlined by the freshman class. First-year classmates Casey Robinson stepped up the offense and scored to make it 2-0 in favor of the Gorloks, while goalkeeper Brittany Senator made her first
collegiate appearance and locked down the defense, contributing to the shutout.
After the game, Webster's head coach Luigi Scire said, "Our girls played well through the heat and made some adjustments. We controlled the second half and Brittany Senator rose to the occasion."
The Gorloks' record now stands at 2-0. Up next for the team is a road game at North Central College on September 6.
