Webster volleyball won both matches in their double-header on September 13. In the first contest, they defeated rival Fontbonne University 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22). After that, the Gorloks went on to top
Westminster College 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-16). The wins put them at a 7-2 record overall and a perfect 3-0 against SLIAC opponents.
Webster’s front line played exceptionally well. Anchored by senior Sarah Rusnak and junior Jackie Schall, the Gorloks were all over the net. Last year, Webster graduated the University’s all time kills leader Crystal Shelton (now Crystal Spinner, head coach of Fontbonne University volleyball). However, the duo of Schall and Rusnak have picked up the slack and grabbed coach Merry Graf’s attention.
“Sarah really had an outstanding off-season. She trained really hard, and I think she is in great shape,” said Graf. “Jackie has always been a great player for us, and we have been able to rely on her ability to
be consistent.”
The Gorloks hit the floor again on September 16, where they will take on Greenville College in a road game at 7 p.m. This game is a SLIAC conference matchup. The team returns home on September 23 at 7 p.m.
where they will take on MacMurray College in Grant Gymnasium.
