Records fell like feathers from the sky as the Webster University women's soccer team defeated Spalding University 9-0 on October 21 in Louisville, KY. In one single game, junior Christy Capkovic (Mehlville HS, STL) became the career leader in three categories.
Capkovic scored her fifth hat trick of the year in the first half. The three goals gave Capkovic 24 for the season, tying teammate Kelsey McClure's (JR, Hickman HS, MO) record set in 2007. Her 25th goal, scored in the second half, set a new record. Her career total of 62 breaks the record of 58 held by Niki Martinez (2000-2002). With two assists in the game also, Capkovic reached158 career points, eclipsing the previous high of 152.
Megan Niederschulte (JR, Pattonville HS, STL) added her 14th goal. Niederschulte's 52 career goals and 139 points place her third in both categories. McClure is now fifth in goals (49) and points (124).
Six different Gorloks scored in the contest, including the first of the season for Toni Turiqiatto (FR, LaMiranda HS, CA), Catrina Salama (JR, Mehlville HS, STL), and Lindsey Owens (SO, St. Dominic's HS, STL). Kelsey Hunk (JR, Francis Howell Central HS, STL) scored her second of the season.
Freshman GKs Shelby Wade (Francis Howell HS, STL) and Maria Arias (Lincoln HS, Costa Rica) shared the shutout. Wade is now 8-2 on the season.
Webster is 3-1 in the SLIAC and 10-3 overall. They return home on October 24 to face Greenville College at the Soccer Park.
