The Webster University women's soccer team solidified their hold on 2nd place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by defeating Greenville College, 4-2, at the Soccer Park on October 24.
Junior Megan Niederschulte (Pattonville HS, STL) recorded her third hat trick of the season as she raised her goal total to 17. After Greenville had taken an early 1-0 lead, Niederschulte tied the game at the 29:08 mark on a pass from Christy Capkovic (JR, Mehlville HS, STL).
Capkovic put Webster up 2-1 with her 26th goal at 37:40. Niederschulte scored her second goal on a through ball by senior Jenna Steiner (Jefferson City HS, MO) at 50:00 and completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal at 60:00
The win gave Webster sole possession of second place at 4-1 with three SLIAC contests remaining. Greenville fell to third with their second loss in SLIAC play.
It was "Senior Day" for the Gorloks as Steiner, Kristin Garlich (Hazelwood West HS, STL), Jesse Schellerup (Francis Howell Central HS, STL), and Dana Vahey (Hazelwood West HS, STL) were honored in a pre-game ceremony. All received framed jerseys to mark the occasion.
Webster returns to action on October 27 in Fulton, MO versus Westminster College. The team returns home on October 29 against Eureka College to make up a postponed contest originally scheduled for October 10.
