Gorloks Still Score on Soggy Sod, Win 5-0

Battling rain, cold weather, and terrible field conditions, the Webster University women's soccer team still managed to score five goals in a 5-0 win over Westminster College on October 27 in Fulton, MO.  The win gives the Gorloks a 5-1 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Junior Kelsey McClure (Hickman HS, MO) scored her sixth goal to put the Gorloks ahead at the 11:05 mark of the first half.  Dana Vahey (SR, Hazelwood West HS, STL) tallied her first goal of the season and Amanda Zeier (SO, McCluer HS, STL) her third, to put Webster up 3-0 at the half.

Christy Capkovic (JR, Mehlville HS, STL) added her 27th goal and Jordan Geller (SO, O'Fallon HS, IL) her third to complete the scoring.  The Gorloks scored five goals despite standing water on parts of the field, muddy patches, and hunks of displaced sod.  The men's game, following, was cancelled with 32 minutes remaining because of the field conditions.

Freshmen GKs Shelby Wade (Francis Howell HS, STL) and Maria Arias (Lincoln HS, Costa Rica) shared the shutout.  Wade is now 10-2 on the season.

Webster remains in second place in the SLIAC and in the hunt for first place.  It will need a loss by Principa College to have a shot at first.  Webster's overall record is 12-3.  Next up is a makeup contest versus Eureka College (IL) at the Soccer Park on October 29.
