Men Continue Season Turnaround With 4-0 Win

8-1-1 Run After Victory Over MacMurray

The Webster University men took care of business with a 4-0 victory over MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL, on October 31.  The win gave the Gorloks a chance to win the 2009 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, but a Greenville College (IL) win over Spalding University (KY) later that day ended their quest.

Four different players hit the scoring column.  Senior Andry Rudroff (DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL) scored his team-leading his eighth goal of the season.  Kyle Leifield (JR, Marquette HS, STL) added his fifth goal, putting him second in goals.  Mike Politte (JR, St. Francis Borgia, STL) and Bryce Johnson (JR, Basha HS, AZ) completed the scoring for the Gorloks.

Senior GK Matt Geringer (Hazelwood Central HS, STL) picked up his fourth shutout and sixth win of the season, with four saves on five shots faced.  Webster outshot the Highlanders 38-5 and had a season high 17 shots on goal and 14 corner kicks.

The Gorloks finished the regular season second in the SLIAC at 7-1, and 8-6-1 overall.  The win over MacMurray continues a remarkable comeback by the Gorloks that has seen them go 8-1-1 after starting the year 0-5.  Defensively, Webster has allowed only 17 goals in 15 contests.

Webster will host a SLIAC post-season tourney contest versus Fontbonne College on November 5.
