Women's Soccer Opens With A Bang

The women’s soccer team started the season with a 2-1 victory over the Millikin University Big Blue at the St. Louis Soccer Park Tuesday afternoon. Junior Kelsey McClure opened the season’s scoring, taking up where she left off in 2007, as she netted a pass from sophomore Morgan Milfeld at the 9:00 minute mark of the first half. McClure returned to the Gorloks after sitting out the 2008 season. Junior Christy Capkovic, who led Webster in scoring in 2008, followed that goal up a minute later with a chip in off a Millikin defender.

Millikin, who was 26th in NCAA III scoring in 2008, was stifled for the most part by the Webster defense. Freshman goalie Shelby Wade allowed no goals in the first half while sophomore Brittany Senator allowed a single tally at the 47:00 mark in the 2nd half. After surrendering the goal, Webster missed out on numerous scoring chances before settling for the one goal victory.

Webster starts off the season 1-0 while Millikin, hoping to improve on back to back 12-win seasons, drops to out 0-1. The women’s next soccer game is at the Soccer Park on Saturday, September 5, at noon, versus Rose-Hulman Institute (IN).
