A 6-0 victory for the Webster University women's soccer team at Blackburn College on September 29 added to multiple streaks for the season. The win was the sixth in row for the team, its fifth straight shutout, and featured junior Christy Capkovic's (Mehlville HS, STL) third hat trick of the season.
The team record for consecutive shutouts is seven by the 2002 quad. Freshmen goalkeepers Sheby Wade (Francis Howell HS, STL) and Maria Arias (Lincoln HS, Costa Rica) shared the shutout.
Capkovic now holds the career record of five, and the season record of three, for games with three or more goals. Capkovic started the scoring early by netting her 10th goal at the 1:19 mark and her 11th at 5:32. Capkovic completed her hat trick at 60:44, scoring her 12th goal.
Junior Kelsey McClure (Hickman HS, MO), who also had two assists, added her fifth at 11:00. Jessica Schellerup (SR, Francis Howell Central, STL) scored her first of the year at 47:35 and senior Jenna Steiner (Jefferson City HS, MO) finished the scoring with her first goal of the season at 75:48 off a corner by Capkovic.
Webster is now 1-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 7-1 overall. The Gorloks look to extend their streaks on October 3 at Fontbonne University. They remain 7th ranked in the NCAA III Central region.
