The women's volleyball team found life on the road pleasant as Webster University downed Westminster College 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-17) on September 29 in Fulton, MO. The victory extended the Gorloks winning streak in the SLIAC to 28 straight and has them solidly in first place at 6-0.
Senior Jackie Schall (Oakville HS, STL) once again led the Gorloks with 12 kills while Abby Williams (SR, Incarnate Word Academy, STL) and Mary Jo Schweitzer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) had seven each. Several players are now ranked among the individual statistical leaders in the SLIAC.
Schall and Williams rank second and third in the conference in hitting percentage, and Schall ranks third in kills. Williams and junior Jackie Novak (Timberland HS, STL) rank eighth and ninth in assists. Schweitzer ranks ninth in service ace average and junior Sarah Bailey (Columbia HS, IL) ranks fifth in digs.
The Gorloks now have a week off as they prepare for a home match versus conference newcomer Spalding University (KY) on October 6. At 2-0 in the SLIAC and 10-3 overall, Spalding is the great unknown in regards to how they will match up against conference foes.
