The women's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit, but yielded a late goal as Webster lost to Washington University, 3-2, at AB Soccer Park on October 7. The heartbreaking finish had similar overtones to a 2-1 loss at Washington University in the 2009 NCAA III Tournament, when the Bears scored five minutes into overtime to win.
Megan Niederschulte (SR, Pattonville HS, STL) was the Gorlok to score the first Webster goal in both contests. Niederschulte's 10th goal of the 2010 season, scored at 78:41 in the second half, breathed life into a stagnant Gorlok offense as the Washington lead was cut to 2-1. Despite a game-tyiing goal by Morgan Milfeld (JR, DeSoto HS, MO) with only five minutes remaining in the contest, the Bears scored at the 88:46 mark to seal the win.
Niederschulte's goal was a shot of adrenaline for the Gorloks, who kept heavy pressure on the Bear defense over the next six minutes, culminating in Milfeld's goal. Washinton University stormed back with an offensive push of its own, resulting in the game winner. The Bears had built a 2-0 lead on a goal 26 minutes into the contest and a penalty kick goal at the 53:22 mark.
Webster returns to play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on October 9 vs. Blackburn College (IL) at AB Soccer Park. The Gorloks are 3-0 in the SLIAC and 7-5 overall.
