Men's Soccer Overcomes 'Terrible Twos'...Minutes

The men's soccer team overcame a damaging two-minute spell to claim a 4-2 Webster victory over Millikin University at Decatur, IL, on September 22.  Second half goals by Matt Mantia (Sr, Webster Groves HS, STL), Clint Carder (SO, DeSoto HS, MO), and Brett Bozesky (JR, Christian Brothers HS, STL) sealed the win for the Gorloks.

Webster took a 1-0 lead into the half on a goal by Kyle Leifield (SR, Marquette HS, STL) but a two-minute span in the second half put a Gorlok victory in serious doubt.  Millikin scored to tie the game at 49:00, and took the lead at 51:00, but sandwiched in between was the loss of Carder at the 50:00 mark to injury.

Mantia tied the game at 69:15 and Carder returned to the field just in time to head a free kick by Dominic DeVasto (JR, St. John Vianney HS, STL) in for the go ahead goal at 86:18.  Bozesky's goal and several late saves by goalkeeper Alex Cupp (JR, Lutheran South HS, STL), insured the win.

The Gorloks open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on September 28 at Greenville College (IL).  Webster is 4-2-2 on the season.
