Women's Soccer Tames Panthers, 3-1

The Webster University women's soccer team opened up its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in fine fashion, winning at Greenville College, 3-1, on September 28.  Christy Capkovic (SR, Mehlville HS, STL) made a strong return after missing two games, scoring two goals in the victory.

The Gorloks first SLIAC win was against a Greenville squad that came into the contest with a gaudy 7-1-1 record.  Katie Aubuchon (FR, Affton HS, STL) opened the scoring for Webster on a give and go to Capkovic, who returned the pass to her for the goal.  The goal was the first of Aubuchon's college career.  Webster took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Capkovic scored two minutes into the second half off a pass by Megan Niederschulte (SR, Pattonville HS, STL) and added a second goal seven minutes later, after Greenville had cut the lead to 2-1.  Capkovic has seven goals in seven games on the season, and slipped by Niederschulte, who has six, for the team lead.

Shelby Wade (SO, Francis Howell HS, STL) manned the nets for the Gorloks and picked up the win, evening her season record at 3-3.  Webster is 1-0 in the SLIAC and 5-4 overall on the season.  Spalding University (KY) comes to town on October 1 for a game at AB Soccer Park.
