The Webster University women's soccer team lost a battle for first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, 2-1, to Principia College (IL), on October 22 at the Soccer Park. The Panthers built up a 2-0 first half lead, and hung on as the Gorloks put on a desperate push to tie in the game's final minutes.
Ally Nikolaus (SO, St. Joseph's Academy) scored the lone goal for Webster, coming on a penalty kick at the 79:01 mark. Nikollaus' goal was her sixth of the season. Morgan Milfeld (SR, DeSoto HS, MO) was pulled down by a Panther defender just inside the 18-yard box, near the end line, for the PK.
Principia had controlled play up till that point, and the goal gave the Gorloks a spark as they pressured the Panther defense for the final 10 minutes. but could not score the equalizer. Brittany Senator (SR, Quincy HS, IL) had the start in goal for Webster and took just her third loss of the season, falling to 8-3. She faced 13 shots and allowed two goals. Jessica Davis (FR, Belleville West HS, IL) played the second half in goal for the Gorloks.
Webster fell to 5-1 in the SLIAC and 10-5-1 overall. The Gorloks are at home on October 25 to take on Westminster College for senior night. They wrap up the regular season with a trip to Carlinville, IL, on October 29 to face Blackburn College.
