In a couple tuneup matches before its final St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match and post-season tournament, the Webster University women's volleyball team dropped two at Augustana College (IL) on October 29. The Gorloks lost to Wartburg College (IA), 3-1, and lost a thriller to host Augustana, 3-2.
Webster battled Wartburg for three sets, before the Knights had an easy go in the fourth. The Gorloks lost to Wartburg, who is 24-10 on the season and 7-1 in the tough Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, 18-25, 25-23, 20-25, and 7-20.
The Gorloks fared much better against Augustana, who is not having a standout season, but plays in the equally competitive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Webster lost the first two sets, 22-25 and 20-25, but got on a roll in the third and fourth, winning 25-18 and 25-19 and tying the match. The Gorloks battled it out in the tie-breaker, going back and forth with the Vikings before losing, 18-20.
Webster is 16-12 on the season. The team travels to Fulton, MO, to take on Westminster College in the final SLIAC regular season match. The Gorloks, who have already clinched at least a #2 seed, can clinch the #1 seed and host the tournament with a victory.
