Fielding a starting line-up of five freshmen and three sophomores, the Webster University Women's soccer team battled to a 1-0 halftime lead, but succumbed to the 9th-ranked Washington University Bears, 4-1. The game was played at Washington U's Francis Field in Clayton, on October 6.
Though outshot 9-3 for the first half, Webster got on the board first at the 41:38 mark as Amanda Zeier (SR, McCluer HS) scored on a rebound off a breakaway shot by Lindsey Owens (JR, St. Dominic's HS). The goal gave the Gorloks a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Bears took charge in the second half as they knotted the game at 1-1, at the 48:42 mark and took the lead nine minutes later. Washington University increased its lead to 3-1 with a tap-in off a through ball at 61:48 and finished the scoring at 87:08.
Jessica Davis (FR, Belleville West HS, IL) started in goal for the Gorloks and held the Bears scoreless in the first half as she faced nine shots and made four saves. Brittany Senator (SR, Quincy HS, IL) finished up the game in the second half and took the loss as she falls to 6-2 on the year. Senator faced 16 shots and made four saves also, while allowing four goals to the relentless Bear attack.
The Gorloks fall to 7-4-1 as the Bears improved to 11-1. Webster gets back into St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on October 12 as they travel to Fontbonne University to take on the Griffins at Gay Field in Clayton.
