The Webster University women's volleyball team lost a battle of two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference powers, dropping a hard fought, 3-1, contest to the Spalding University Golden Eagles (KY), on October 7, at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks saw their seven match winning streak come to an end.
The Golden Eagle nipped the Gorloks 25-23 in set one but Webster rebounded and took another back and forth set, by the same 25-23 score. The Golden Eagles took the lead with a 25-21 win in the third., and finished off the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Webster may have suffered a greater loss than dropping a match, when freshmen Jordan Vehlewald (Lafayette HS) and Jenny Howard (Duchesne HS) both went down with injuries.
It was 'Dig Pink' night and the Gorloks donned pink, while sponsoring various activities and sales to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.
Webster fell to 9-2 in the SLIAC and 12-5 overall. The Gorloks take on Blackburn College (IL) at home of October 11, then head to Colorado for the Colorado College Tournament on October 14-15.
