Women's Soccer Shuts Down Monmouth, 1-0

Shutting out its second straight opponent, the Webster University women's soccer team defeated Monmouth College, 1-0, on September 11, at Monmouth, IL.  The Gorlok defense has only allowed three goals in four games thus far on the season.

Webster pelted the Monmouth net, hitting 13 out of its 18 total shots, on goal.  The Gorloks finally broke through when freshman Lauren Scalise (York HS, IL) scored an unassisted goal with 2:30 remaining in the first half.  Scalise scored on a dead ball shot after a Monmouth foul, from 25 yards out, to beat the goalie.

Brittany Senator (SR, Quincy HS, IL) and Shelby Wade (JR, Francis Howell HS) shared the shutout in goal, with Senator picking up the decision.  She is 2-1 on the season.  Senator and Wade combined for nine saves in the win.

The Gorloks have two road games this coming week.  They travel to Terre Haute, IN, to take on Rose-Hulman Institute on September 14, and head to Louisville, KY, to face Spalding Univesity on September 17.  The game at Spalding will mark the first contest in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play for 2011.
