The women's volleyball team opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a hard-fought victory as Webster defeated Principia College (IL), 3-1, at Grant Gymnasium on September 13. The Gorloks won several see-saw sets, and battled from behind in a couple as well.
After dropping the first set, 24-26, the Gorloks fell behind 8-3 in the second, but a 9-2 run pulled them ahead and they won, 25-21. The third set was another ping-pong match on the scoreboard as the lead passed back and forth before Webster prevailed, 27-25. In the fourth set, the Gorloks were behind 20-16, but came back to win the set and the match, 25-23.
Jordan Vehlewald (FR, Lafayette HS) led the Gorloks with 12 kills and fellow freshman Jenny Howard (Duchesne HS) pitched in with eight.
Webster is 1-0 in the SLIAC and improves to 4-3 overall. The Gorloks travel to Louisville, KY, to face Eureka College (IL) and Greenville College on September 17. Webster travels to Jacksonville, IL, on September 19 to take on MacMurray College and returns home on September 24 for a tri-meet with Wesminster College and MacMurray again.
