Gorloks Clip Eagles Wings, 2-1

Open SLIAC at 1-0

The men’s soccer team opened up St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in the win column, as Webster defeated Spalding University, 2-1, on September 17 in Louisville, KY. Carlos Espinosa (SO, Eureka HS) scored the game winner for Webster with 20 minutes left in the contest.

After a scoreless first, the Golden Eagles broke the scoring drought nine minutes into the second half to go up 1-0. Pat McCaffery (FR, Bishop DuBourg HS) knotted it up with his team-leading third goal of the season, with 25:00 left in the game. McCaffery headed in a throw-in by Kyle Leonard (SR, Lafayette HS). Less than five minutes later, Espinosa tapped in a loose ball off another throw-in by Leonard, to give the Gorloks their 2-1 lead.

Alex Cupp (SR, Lutheran South HS) started in goal for the Gorloks and picked up his second win of the season.

Webster is 1-0 in the SLIAC and 3-4 overall. The Gorloks come right home for a game vs. Elmhurst College (IL) at the Soccer Park on September 18. They have a week off before travelling across the Mississippi to Belleville, IL, to face Lindenwood University-Belleville on September 25.
