After winning its first match of the day, 3-0, to Eureka College, the Webster University women's volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to defending champs Greenville College, 3-2. The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action took place at Spalding University in Louisville, KY, on September 17.
Webster had an easy time with Eureka in the first match of the day, winning in straight games, 25-10, 25-13, and 25-14. Next up was Greenville, who tied Spalding for the 2010 conference regular season title, then advanced to the NCAAs with a win in the SLIAC Tournament final over Webster.
The Gorloks took the first game 25-21, then dropped two consecutive, 21-25 and 20-25. Webster forced a tiebreaker by evening the match with a win in game four, 25-18. Greenville nipped the Gorloks in the tiebreaker, 16-14, to take the match.
Webster is 2-1 in the SLIAC, and 5-4 overall. The team travels to Jacksonville, IL, on September 19 to face MacMurray College. That contest will take place at Routt Catholic High School, right next door to MacMurray, as the Highlanders continue to repair damage caused by summer floods to their own facility. Webster returns to Grant Gymnasium on September 24 for a tri-match with Westminster College and MacMurray.
