The men's and women's soccer squads both came up empty handed in wins and goals, as Lindenwood-Belleville (IL) beat the Webster men, 4-0, and Dominican University (IL) defeated the women, 1-0, on September 25.
The Webster women were finishing up a two-game trip to the Chicago area. The Stars held the edge in shots in the first half, 10-5, but Gorlok Jessica Davis (FR, Belleville West HS, IL) came up with three saves in goal to keep the game 0-0 at the half. The teams each took six shots in the second, but Dominican slipped by the lone goal at the 52:00 minute mark on a shot off a dead ball.
Davis took the loss in goal, allowing the single tally as she faced 16 shots and made three saves. The Gorloks are 6-3-1 for the season. The women are back in action on October 2 vs. Eureka College (IL) at the Soccer Park. The contest will be the first in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athetic Conference play for 2011.
The Webster men faced Lindenwood University-Belleville, an NAIA program, in Belleville, IL. The Lynx took a 1-0 lead with four minutes left in the first half. Two more Lynx goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half extended the lead to 3-0. The Gorloks mustered a little offense late in the contest with four straight shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Gorlok men are also back in action on October 2 vs. Eureka at the Soccer Park, making their first SLIAC action as well. They fall to 3-5-1 on the season.
