In as hard a fought match as is possible, the Webster University women's volleyball team emerged victorious at Greenville College (IL), 3-2, on September 27. All five games were decided by three points or less, with the Gorloks winning the tie-breaker set, 15-13, over the defending St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champs.
The Gorloks nipped Greenville in set one, 25-22, but the Panthers came back to tie the match, 25-22. Webster pulled right back on top with a 26-24 set, only to see Greenville tie it up again in the fourth set, 25-23, before the Gorloks took the tie-breaker and the match.
Greenville had defeated Webster in Louisville, KY, on September 17, in another hard-fought match that saw the Panthers winning the tie-breaker by an identical 15-13 score. With the win, the Gorloks take sole possession of second place in the SLIAC.
Webster has a SLIAC tri-meet on October 1 in Clayton, as they take on Fontbonne University and Principia College.
