Volleyball Improves to 11-1 in SLIAC With Sweep

The Webster University volleyball team improved to 11-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a sweep of Principia College (IL) and Blackburn College (IL), at home on October 13.  In the process the Gorloks moved up a notch in the SLIAC standings and have won nine straight in the conference.

Webster defeated Principia, 3-0, (25-12, 25-11, 25-12).  Principia had entered the contest tied with Webster at 9-1in the SLIAC, and both teams one half game behind Greenville College (IL) who had one more win to start the day at 10-1.  Principia wound up the afternoon 10-2 with its win over Blackburn in the day's second match.

Against Principia, Sam Kersting (SO, Lindbergh HS, MO) had nine kills, three blocked shots, and seven block assists.  Kristen McDowell (SO, Staunton HS, IL) and Lindsey Taylor (JR, Rockwood Summit HS, MO) each had eight kills and two block assists.

The Gorloks defeated Blackburn,3-0, (25-19, 25-9, 25-10) to continue the winning streak.  Jenny Howard (SO, Duchesne HS, MO) had nine kills and Kersting had eight kills with two blocked shots and four block assists.  Megan Morrison (SO, Lutheran South HS, MO) led the Gorloks with 19 digs.

During Webster's nine-match win streak in the SLIAC, the team hasn't lost a single set, winning all nine, 3-0.  The Gorloks are 14-8 overall and are off for a week before heading to Louisville, KY, to face Spalding University and Hanover College (IN) on October 20.
