The Webster Univesity volleyball team won its first two matches in the Illinois Wesleyan University Tournament, in Bloomington, IL, on October 26. The Gorlok defeated Eureka College, 3-0, and Central College (IA), 3-1.
With the win vs. Eureka, which counted as a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match, Webster improved to 14-1 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks are tied with Greenville College (IL) for first place in the SLIAC, with both teams having one conference match remaining.
Webster defeated Eureka, 25-12, 25, 13, 25-14, and in the process won its 12th straight SLIAC contest. During the 12 match streak, Webster has not lost a set, winning 36 straight. The Gorloks followed up that win with its second non-conference win in a row, a 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, victory over Central. Webster has won 11 of its last 12 matches, and 16 of its last 19, after starting the season 3-6..
Jenny Howard (SO, Duchesne HS, MO) had 15 kills, 12 digs, and two block assists vs. Central. Sam Kersting (SO, Lindbergh HS, MO) had 12 kills, two solo blocks, and six block assists. Kristen McDowell (SO, Staunton HS, IL) had seven kills and five block assists.
Webster is 19-9 overall on the year. The Gorloks have two more matches in the Tournament on October 27, vs. host school Illinois Wesleyan and the University of Dallas (TX). Webster then wraps up its regular season schedule with a match at Principia College (IL) on Oct. 30.
