Box Score Having to win on the road to claim a part of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crown, the Webster University women's soccer team downed Greenville College, 2-0, on October 27 at Greenville, IL. The Gorloks finish at 7-1 in the SLIAC. Second half goals by Freddie Brandt and Kristin Montgomery sealed the win for the Gorloks.
Webster wound up in a three-way tie with Principia College (IL) and Fontbonne University for its first SLIAC title since 2007. A coin toss took place to determine the seeding of home-field advantage for the SLIAC Tournament. Principia finished first and Fontbonne second, so the Gorloks will play at Fontbonne in a first round match.
Brandt (JR, Davis HS, CA) scored the Gorloks first goal, and the game winner, in the second half. It was Brandt's first goal for the Gorloks. Montgomery (SO, Duchesne HS, MO) scored an insurance goal, her team-leading 12th of the season.
Goalkeeper Jessica Davis (SO, Belleville West HS, IL) tied the Webster school record for shutouts in a season, with her 12th. She is tied with current Webster assistant coach, Jessica Kozeny, atop the Webster record book. Davis came into the contest 28th in the NCAA III on goals against average at 0.55, and was 24th in save percentage (.863). She leads the SLIAC in both categories as well as in fewest goals allowed (10), wins (14), and shutouts (12).
Webster is 14-5 overall on the season and ranked 9th in the NCAA III Central Region. Next up for the Gorloks will be the first round of the SLIAC Conference Tournament at Fontbonne on October 31, at 1:30 p.m., at Gay Field in Clayton.
