Box Score The Webster University women’s soccer season came to an end with a 4-0 loss at Wheaton College (IL) in the NCAA III Central Region semi-finals on November 9.  The Gorloks weren’t able to advance in the NCAA III Tournament, but can take pride in an excellent season that saw them win their first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title since 2007 and finish with a 16-6 record.
 
The Thunder’s offense was able to solve the stingy Webster defense, the Gorloks’ hallmark all season, for two first half goals. Wheaton took a 1-0 lead at the 9:31 mark with a tap in, just inside the Webster goal box.  The Thunder took a 2-0 lead at the 29:21 mark, when they punched a crossing pass by Webster goalkeeper, Jessica Davis (SO, Belleville West HS, IL). Wheaton added two second half goals as the Gorloks’ potent offense couldn’t break through.   
 
Wheaton, ranked 11^th in the nation in the latest NSCAA poll coming into the contest, advanced to the Central Region championship.
 
Webster won its fifth SLIAC Tournament Championship in 2012, and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the ninth time in the program’s history.  Webster had nine players selected to the SLIAC All-Conference teams and had the league’s Newcomer of the Year (Lauren Pratt, FR, Incarmate Word Academy, MO) for the second straight season.
 
For the Gorloks, ranked 8th in the Central Region, the future appears very bright.  With a team that averaged four freshman and three sophomore starts per game, and with no graduating seniors on the squad, Webster will enter the 2013 season with substantial experience at all positions.
