Volleyball Has Tough Day in RH Opener

The Webster University women's volleyball team had a rough first round at the 2012 Rose-Hulman Volleyball Invitational, falling to Defiance College and Millikin University in Terre Haute, IN, on September 8.  Adding 'injury to insult', the Gorloks lost SLIAC All-Conference performer Jenny Howard (SO, Duchesne HS, MO) to injury.  Her status is unknown at this time.

The Gorloks, still missing starters Emily Ratkewicz (SO, Granite City HS, IL) and Liz Abraham (JR, Hermann HS, MO), fell to Defiance 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 24-26), battling through all three sets.  Webster managed to take a set from Millikin after dropping the first two, but still fell 3-1 (18-25, 12-25, 25-19, 19-25).  Webster had a challenge with its day one competition as Millikin finished the afternoon undefeated on the season (6-0) and Defiance improved to 4-2.

Webster is 1-3 on the season and will continue play in the Invitational on September 9.  The Gorloks have another challenging day as they face DePauw (4-2) University, on a four-match streak, and host Rose-Hulman University (5-2).  Webster returns home on September 12 and kicks off the 2012 SLIAC schedule, facing Westminster College at Grant Gymnasium.
