Box Score The Webster University women’s soccer team eked out a win over Elmhurst College (IL), 1-0, at the St. Louis Soccer Park, on September 8. Briana Small (FR, Lake Park HS, IL) scored the Gorloks lone goal and goalie Jessica Davis (SO, Belleville West HS, IL) made it hold up for her first shutout of the season.
Small gave Webster the lead with her first goal of the season, and first as a Gorlok, at the 21:00 minute mark of the first half. Lauren Scalise (SO, York HS, IL) took a pass from Ally Nikolaus (JR, St. Joseph’s Academy, MO) and found Small open on the left side just outside the goal box. Small punched it under the outstretched arm of the Blue Jay goalie for the score.
With the shutout Davis, who finished with the ninth lowest goals against average in the NCAA III, lowered her season goals against to 0.99. The win also pushed head coach Luigi Scire's career total to 199, one short of the coveted 200 mark.
Coming off a tough loss to the #4 team in the Central Region (Alma), Webster downed the #6 ranked Elmhurst (3-1), and the Gorloks handed them their first loss of the season. Webster improved to 2-1 on the young season.
The Gorloks are right back in action on September 9 at the Soccer Park vs. Monmouth College (IL) at 2:00 p.m. Webster continues its home stand on September 12 as it hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (IN).
