Webster Prevails in Showdown

Box Score Webster University's women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half to storm past Fontbonne University 3-1 Saturday (Oct. 19) in Clayton.
 
The Gorloks have won five straight games and outscored their opponents 24-2 during that span.
 
Webster is in sole possession of first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 5-0 mark. The two teams entered today's contest with matching 4-0 SLIAC records.
 
Two minutes into the second half, junior Whitney Scott (Independence, KY / Holy Cross) tied the game at 1-1 with her third goal in five games. Scott later recorded an assist to give her a three-point game.
 
In the 63rd minute, junior Kristin Montgomery (St. Louis, MO / Duchesne) put the Gorloks up for good with her fifth goal in as many games. Montgomery leads Webster in points this season with 20 (six goals, eight assists).
 
Sophomore Jessica Mess (St. Louis, MO / Northwest) notched an insurance tally in the 74th minute. Mess has scored in two straight games.
 
Sophomore Lauren Pratt (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) assisted on the Gorloks' first two goals and has a team-best nine helpers on the season.
 
Webster improved to 13-2 overall with the win. The Gorloks continue SLIAC play with a game at Spalding (Ky.) Wednesday (Oct. 23). Webster then travels to MacMurray (Ill.) next Saturday (Oct. 26).
