Box Score Webster University's volleyball team moved closer to its school record for season wins with a 3-0 sweep (27-25, 25-14, 25-19) of Iowa Wesleyan College Saturday (Nov. 2) in Clayton, Mo.
The Gorloks improved to 22-8 overall (14-2 conference) this season, leaving them three shy of the school record of 25 set in 2007. The squad has two regular-season matches left plus the conference tournament.
All-American Sam Kersting (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) recorded a season-high .684 hitting percentage while racking up 13 kills. She did so with no errors in 19 attacks. This is the third time this season the junior has been unblemished in the attack category. Kersting did so against Iowa Wesleyan Sept. 7 (7 kills) and in an abbreviated appearance against Blackburn Oct. 24 (1 kill). Her previous season high for hitting percentage was .583 against Fontbonne Sept. 21.
This is the 14th time in 31 matches this season that Kersting has hit .400 or better. At the start of the week, she was 56th in the nation for hitting percentage.
Kersting also ranked first in the nation in blocks. The middle blocker added to the latter total with six total blocks today. This is her 12th match this season with at least six blocks.
Junior Jenny Howard (Florissant, MO / Duchesne), who has been limited this season by a knee injury, tallied 23 digs. Her previous season high was 17 against Rose-Hulman Sept. 7. Freshman Katie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) added 16 digs.
Junior Allie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) was credited with 23 assists. This her 10th time this season with 20 or more assists. This is the second time O'Toole has at least 20 assists in consecutive matches. The other was matches on Oct. 8 and 11.
Junior Ashley Fawcett (Surprise, AZ / Valley Vista) contributed 17 assists.
Webster continues play Saturday with a match against MacMurray, followed by its regular-season finale at Westminster next Wednesday (Nov. 6).
