Webster Earns Win No. 23

Box Score Webster University's volleyball squad completed a Saturday sweep with a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-22, 25-9) against MacMurray College on Saturday (Nov. 2) in St. Louis. Earlier in the day, Webster beat Iowa Wesleyan in three sets.
 
The dual conference wins raised Webster's record to 23-8 overall and 15-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Gorloks are two wins away from the school record of 25 set in 2007. The team has one regular-season match left plus the conference tournament. This is the eighth time in 10 years that Webster has won 20 or more matches.
 
All-American Sam Kersting (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) again was the team's top hitter with 12 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. She began the week as the NCAA Division III national leader in blocks and continued her pace today. She had six total blocks in the nightcap along with six blocks in the first match. The middle blocker has 13 matches this season with at least six blocks.
 
Freshman Katie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) paced the defense with 18 digs to go along with her 16 digs in the first match. She is averaging 5.11 digs per set for the season, which puts her on pace for the third-highest average in school history. The record of 5.39 digs per set belongs to Melissa Zwilling in the 2002 season.
 
Junior Allie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) was credited with 22 assists. For the first time this season, she has at least 20 assists in three consecutive matches.
 
Webster has its regular-season finale at Westminster next Wednesday (Nov. 6). The Gorloks are assured of the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament next Saturday (Nov. 9) when the top four seeds square off in a single-elimination format.
