Webster Records First Win of Season

Box Score Webster University's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, a 3-0 sweep of a non-conference road match at Illinois College.

Game scores for the Gorloks (1-1) were 25-13, 25-19, and 25-18. This is Webster's seventh consecutive win against Illinois College since 2003.

Junior Sam Kersting (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) was the top hitter for Webster with a team-high 10 kills and no errors in 17 attacks for a .588 hitting percentage. Kersting was a third-team All-American last season, one of 12 underclassmen recognized.

Other statistical leaders for the Gorloks were junior Ashley Fawcett (Surprise, AZ / Valley Vista) with 20 assists and junior Megan Morrison (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) with 20 digs.

Webster was the pre-season favorite to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to a poll of conference coaches. Webster has won the last two SLIAC championships and been selected for the NCAA Division III national tournament six times.

The Gorloks resume action this weekend at a tournament hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.). Webster is scheduled to face the host school, Kenyon (Ohio), Defiance (Ohio), and Muskingum (Ohio).
