Volleyball Slides Into 2nd in SLIAC W/3-0 Win Over Westminster

Box Score The Webster University volleyball team defeated Westminster College in straight sets, 3-0, on October 28 at Grant Gymnasium.  The loss avenges an earlier 3-0 defeat to the Blue Jays this season and gives the Gorloks sole possession of second place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

It was Webster's 11th straight win in the SLIAC.  The Gorloks are 14-2 in the conference, a half game behind Greenville College (IL) at 14-1.  Westminster entered the evening tied with Webster, but fell into third place at 13-3 with the loss.  The Gorloks won 25-16, 25-17, and 25-20.  Webster had lost in straight sets to Westminster in Fulton on September 27, 25-22, 25-17, and 27-25, snapping a Gorlok 22-match win streak vs. the Blue Jays.

Sam Kersting (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh HS) had a 'double double' with 10 kills and 10 digs, plus a solo block and three block assists.  Rachel Nelson (JR, Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista South HS) had 10 kills, three solo blocks, and one block assist.  Emma Cabutti (JR, Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) had 21 digs to lead the Gorloks.

Allie O'Toole (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had a team-high 19 assists, and Katie O'Toole (SO, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had 13 assists.

The Gorloks are 19-11 overall with the win.  Webster hosts Greenville on October 30 in a showdown for first place.  It will be "Pack The House Night' at Grant Gymnasium, with the Student Government Association sponsoring free pizza for students in attendance.
