Volleyball Starts 2-0 With Home Opener Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster women's volleyball team started the season 2-0 with a sweep over Hanover College (IN) and Buena Vista University (IA), on August 29 at Grant Gymnasium.  After a fairly easy win in the opener against Hanover, the Gorloks had to battle from behind to defeat Buena Vista.

The Gorloks won 3-0 to open the evening, defeating Hanover, 25-11, 25-20, and 25-18.  The Panthers, a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, finished 16-16 in 2013.

Buena Vista, a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, wound up 17-12 in 2013 and posed a much tougher challenge for Webster.  The Gorloks won the first set, 25-20, but the Beavers came back to win the next two, 25-15 and 25-23.

Webster battled back to take a 25-22 win in set four, forcing a tie-breaker.  The Gorloks prevailed, 15-11, to begin the season 2-0 for the first time since 2011.

The Gorloks have a week off before facing Southwestern University (TX) at Washington University on September  5.  Webster then heads to Terre Haute, IN, on September 6-7 for the Rose-Hulman Tournament where they will play four matches including the host school and Ohio Wesleyan University.
