Webster Men Lose to Millikin, 2-0

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team lost its second straight, losing to Millikin University, 2-0, on September 10, at the Soccer Park.  The Gorloks fell behind, 1-0, at the 34:44 mark of the first half and were unable to muster a goal for the duration against the Big Blue.

Millikin scored a goal on a blast past Webster keeper Brian Woodward (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) by forward Ben Spelman from 25 yards out to take the lead.  Woodward made two saves as Millikin outshot Webster 4-2 in the half. 

The Gorloks turned the tables in the second half, outshooting the Big Blue, 8-4, forcing the Millikin keeper to make four saves, but none found the back of the net.  Millikin scored its second goal at 54:03 in the second on a seeing-eye shot from just outside the penalty box that made its way through the Webster defense.

Webster outshot Millikin, 10-8 for the game and Millikin held an edge in corners, 5-3.  Millikin had 10 fouls to Webster's five and won the battle of the yellow cards, 3-2, including a red card.  Spelman, who had two yellows for the Big Blue within 28 seconds of each other in the game's final two minutes, was issued a red after the second.

The Gorloks fell to 2-3 with the loss.  The team heads to Chicago for September 13-14 for the Sal Vacarro Tournament.  Webster takes on Grinnell College on the 13th, then plays either host North Central College or Penn St.-Behrend on the 14th.  Webster is home on September 18 as it hosts Washington University at the Soccer Park.
