Gorloks Shut Down Big Blue, 3-1

Box Score The Webster University women's soccer team recorded its second win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Millikin University, on September 10, at the Soccer Park.  Webster improved to 2-1-2 with the win as Jessica Davis extended her shutout streak to 298 minutes, and three different Gorloks netted goals in the contest.

Davis (SR, Belleville, IL/Belleville West HS) picked up the decision in goal as she improved to 2-1-2 on the season, shutting out the Big Blue in the first half.  Rachael Ainsworth (FR, Salt Lake City, UT/Salt Lake School for Science Education) finished up in goal for Webster, allowing one goal on a penalty kick in the second half.

Lauren Pratt (JR, St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) got the Gorloks started with a goal at 5:21 in the first half, with Whitney Scott (SR, Independence, KY/Holy Cross HS) getting the assist.  Brianna Pagan (FR, St. Louis, MO/Washington HS) picked up her second goal of the season at 28:22 in the first, off a pass from Allison Ferguson (SO, Highland, IL/Highland HS), to make it 2-0 at the half.

Millikin cut the Gorloks lead in half when a penalty kick was called on Ashley Mess (JR, St. Louis, MO/Northwest HS) just inside the Webster box at the 66:13 mark in the second.  The Big Blue forward buried the shot past Ainsworth for the goal.

Giving Webster an insurance tally less than a minute later, Ferguson picked up a goal of her own at the 66:29 mark.  Her shot initially hit the crossbar and bounced at the goal line before being grabbed by the Millikin keeper.  After a discussion between the referee and linesman, the ball was ruled to have crossed the goal line and Ferguson had her first of the season. The Gorloks outshot the Big Blue 17-3 in the contest, with the Big Blue goalie having to make five saves.  Webster allowed just one corner kick as it was able to get 22 players in the game .

Webster travels to Terre Haute, IN, on September 13 to play Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.  The Gorloks return home to the Soccer Park on September 19 to face Washington University.
