Box Score The Webster University volleyball team opened up the 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan College, on September 19, at Grant Gymnasium.
The Gorloks had a relatively easy time in the victory, winning 25-11, 25-17, and 25-8, in the conference opener.  The match allowed head coach Merry Graf to make generous use of her bench, with 15 players seeing the floor. Only once in the three sets did Webster experience a letdown, as it saw a 22-9 advantage in set two, dissolve to a 24-17 lead before the Gorloks scored the game winning point.
Webster had 46 kills to Wesleyan's 21, and an outstanding .419 team hitting average. The Gorloks had 13 blocks to the Tigers five and led in service aces, 6-0. Rachel Nelson (JR, Papillion, NE/Papillion LaVista-South HS) led Webster with 12 kills and Andrea Dwiggins (SR, St. Charles, MO/St. Charles HS) had 10, with an excellent .833 hitting average on the evening. Allie O'Toole (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had 20 assists to pace Webster and Jordan Vehlewald (SR, Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) had a team-high 16 digs.
The Gorloks evened their season record at 5-5 with the win and are 1-0 in the SLIAC. Webster starts a five-match road swing when it plays two SLIAC matches on September 20, vs. Greenville College (IL) and Eureka College (IL) at Jacksonville, IL. The Gorloks will be at Principia College (IL) on September 23.
