Webster Splits, Losing to Greenville and Beating Eureka

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster University volleyball team split a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches, losing to defending regular season champ Greenville, 2-3, in a tie-breaker, and beating Eureka College (IL), 3-0.  The matches took place on September 20, at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL.

Against Greenville, the Gorloks lost the first set 16-25, but won a slugfest in the second, 28-26.  Webster took the lead in the match with a 25-17 win in set three but Greenville won  a knockdown-drag out in the fourth themselves, 27-25, to send the match to a tie-breaker set.  The Panthers prevailed, 15-11, to win the match.

The Gorloks came back to win the SLIAC Championship in 2013 after finishing second to Greenville in the regular season.  Webster won the conference tournament at Greenville to advance to their third straight NCAA III appearance.

Webster blew by Eureka in straight sets in the day's second match, 25-12, 25-4, and 25-21.  The win left the Gorloks at 2-1 in the SLIAC and 6-6 overall.

The Gorloks will travel to Elsah, IL, on September 23 to face Principia College, then will take on Westminster College and Spalding University (KY) on September 27, in Fulton, MO
