Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team lost to Illinois College, 1-0, on September 23, at the Soccer Park. The Gorloks' defense remained staunch, but their offense continued in a stall, despite outshooting the Blue Boys, 11-4 on the night.
Illinois College scored 22 minutes into the game, as a Blue Boy blast from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the Webster net gave them a 1-0 lead. The Gorloks outshot the Blue Boys, 7-4, for the half, but managed just one shot on goal.
For the first 34 minutes of the second half, the play was between the penalty boxes as only one shot was taken (by Webster) by both teams combined. Finally Webster broke the drought with a shot on goal, off a free kick by Brendan Shields, at 79:32.
Webster's next best chance to score came on corner at 83:20. Illinois College had no corner kicks and no shots in the second half, finishing the night with only four shots total.
After a four-goal outburst at North Central College a week ago, Webster has scored two goals in its last three contests combined. With the loss, the Gorloks fall to 2-7-1 on the season.
Webster ends its four-game home stand, hosting Illinois Wesleyan University on September 25. The Gorloks open the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a game at Iowa Wesleyan College, on September 27, in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
