Box Score 2 The Webster University volleyball team finished the Rose-Hulman Tournament with a split, winning its match vs. Ohio Wesleyan University and falling to Defiance College (OH) on September 7. The Gorloks defeated Wesleyan, 3-0, and lost to Defiance, 3-1, in Terre Haute, IN.
The Gorloks swept Wesleyan, but had to fight for each set as they defeated the Battling Bishops, 25-23, 25-20, and 25-19. Webster had a knockdown, drag out, vs. Defiance in the tournament finale.
Webster lost the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-20, and then cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 25-20 win in set three. But the Yellow Jackets slipped by the Gorloks in set four, 25-21, to take the match. Individual stats were not available for the final two matches.
The Gorloks finished the competitive tournament 1-3 and are 3-4 overall on the season. Jordan Vehlewald (SR, Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) was selected to the 2014 Rose-Hulman All-Tournament Team.
Webster returns home on September 12 to host Illinois Wesleyan University at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks then hit the road on September 17 to play NCAA II rival and former SLIAC member, Maryville University.
