Blue Jays Fly By Gorloks, 3-2

Box Score The Webster University volleyball team fell to Westminster College, 3-2, on October 27 in Fulton, MO.  The Gorloks took a 2-0 lead in the match, but lost the next two sets before losing the tie-breaker set, 15-9.  Webster sits in third in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 12-4 as Westminster tightened its grip on second place at 15-2.  Greenville College sits atop the SLIAC standings at 15-1. 

The Gorloks ran to an 11-3 lead in the first set, closing out the win, 25-23, as the Blue Jays tried to rally late.  In set two, Webster was up 13-12 before a 7-0 run made it a comfortable 20-12 lead. The Gorloks went on to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 win.  Webster fell behind 14-11 in the third set, closed to within 20-19, but succumbed, 25-22.

The teams slugged it out in the fourth set, with the scored tied at 10-10, before Westminster reeled off four straight to take a 14-10 lead.  The Gorloks closed to within two, at 19-17, before the Blue Jays scored four straight points to take a 23-17 lead and took the set, 25-18, to tie the match up at 2-2 and send it to a tie-breaker set.  It was just the Gorloks' third tie-breaker match of the season.

After trading points to a 5-5 score in the tie-breaker, Westminster took a 7-5 lead.  The Blue Jays stretched their lead to 10-7, then 13-7 before winning, 15-9, and taking the match.

Jory Siebenmorgen (JR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) had 14 kills to lead the Gorloks.  Rachel Nelson (SR, Papillion, NE/LaVista South HS) had 10 kills and three solo blocks and three block assists.  Kelsey Hamann (FR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo HS) had 19 assists and 10 digs for Webster.  Katie O'Toole (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had 23 digs to lead the Gorloks in that category.
  
Westminster defeated Webster earlier in the season, 3-1, at Grant Gym on October 10.  Webster is 14-15 overall on the season.  The Gorloks play at Washington University, ranked #1 nationally in the NCAA III, on October 29.  Webster will travel to Louisville, KY, on October 31 to play Spalding University and Indiana University Southeast, then close the regular season at home on November 3, hosting Blackburn College (IL).
