Volleyball Sweeps MacMurray And Fontbonne

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster University volleyball team swept matches from MacMurray College (IL) and host Fontbonne University, 3-0, on October 3, in Clayton, MO.  The two wins improved the Gorloks record to 8-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as the team controlled both matches from start to finish.

Against MacMurray, Webster won 25-12, 25-16, and 25-17.  Rachel Nelson (SR, Papillion, NE/LaVista South HS) led with 10 kills and had two solo blocks in the match.  Emmi Murphy (FR, Springfield, MO/Central HS) had a team high 17 assists and Katie O'Toole (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) led the Gorloks with 14 digs.

As a team, the Gorloks had a .272 attack percentage against the Highlanders.

In the Fontbonne match, Webster won 25-12, 25-19, and 25-17.  Emily Knowles (JR, Belleville, IL/Mascoutah HS) had 12 kills to lead Webster and had a stellar .923 attack percentage in the match.  Nelson chipped in with 11 kills, giving her 21 on the afternoon.

O'Toole led with 16 digs, giving her 30 on the day.  Samantha Budrovich (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had 14 digs.  Kelsey Hamann (FR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo HS) had a team high 14 assists and had 11 digs as well.

Webster is 8-2 in the SLIAC and jumped over the .500 mark, at 10-9, for the season.

The Gorloks will host Spalding University (KY) on October 6 and Fontbonne University on October 8 at Grant Gymnasium.  The match vs Fontbonne University on the 8th is Dig Pink Night.  That is an annual event for the Gorloks, with fund-raising activities to help raise awareness of and help fight breast cancer.  Webster will don its pink jerseys for the match.
