Volleyball Starts SLIAC Schedule With Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Starting its quest for a fifth straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, the Webster University volleyball team started 2-0 in the SLIAC with 3-0 wins over Eureka College and Iowa Wesleyan University.  The Gorloks won both matches at Greenville College (IL) on September 12.

Webster defeated Eureka, 25-9, 25-12, and 25-18 in the opener.  The Gorloks had an easy time vs. the Red Devils as coach Merry Graf was able to employ 13 different players in the win.

The Gorloks spread 37 kills around in the match as Rachel Nelson (SR, Papillion, NE/Papillion LaVista-South HS) led with nine kills, Samantha Budrovich (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had eight, and Jory Siebenmorgen (JR, Eureka, MO/UMSL had six. 

Maria Sofner (SO, Creve Coeur, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) had a team high 19 digs for Webster.  Budrovich had 13 digs in addition to her eight kills.

In the second match, the Gorloks swept the Tigers, 25-15, 25-9, and 25-11.  Siebenmorgen led Webster with 13 kills and finished the day with 19 total.  Torie Grassi (FR, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain HS) had 10 kills and Emily Knowles (JR, Belleville, IL/Illinois Wesleyan) had seven for the match.  Webster had 41 kills total against Wesleyan. 

Katie O'Toole (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) and freshman Emmi Murphy (Springfield, MO/Central HS) each had 13 digs to lead Webster in that category. 

The Gorloks are now 3-4 on the season and back in action on September 16 vs. the St. Louis College of Pharmacy at St. Louis University High School.  On September 18, Webster travels to Decatur, IL, to face St. Mary's College (IN) and host Millikin University.
